Covid 19 Update

(January 15, 2022)

Church Family- as you’ve probably seen, Lincoln has reinstated it’s mask mandate from January 15th – February 11th as a response to the unfortunate record-breaking number of Covid cases. As schools, businesses, & communities are responding to this, we feel like it’s our responsibility to also respond and sacrifice to help prevent the spread of Covid so that we can love our neighbors.

Our elders aren’t health professionals, but thankfully we have many health professionals in our church. We’ve reached out to several to gain insight in how to navigate moving forward. The key commonalities in their response were (1) masking & (2) staying home with any current or recent symptoms.  So- after prayer & gaining insight from other healthcare professionals, we are going to remain having Sunday Worship Gatherings at 9 & 11am but with 2 primary notes:

  1. If you are experiencing symptoms and haven’t been tested, we’re asking that you stay home and join us online. We will live stream our 9am gathering, and it’s on Youtube Channel & our Facebook Page to watch after as well. We have recently invested thousands of dollars in the live stream to make it more enjoyable & engaging. The audio & visual are recently enhanced. I know watching online isn’t the same experience as being in-person, but we’re praising Jesus for technological advancements so that we can pursue our communities safety while still being able to tune into our local church.
  2. If you are healthy & comfortable coming in-person to our 9am & 11am gatherings, we’re asking everyone to wear a mask while in the building. I know masks are a hassle. It’s tough to sit for an hour with your mask. It’s tough to sing with it on but this was one main way our members in health care reiterated our ability to respond. We will have masks at the front door if you forget to bring one or need another.

With a church our size, there are so many different views & opinions on this topic. Unity almost seems impossible. BUT- I’m reminded of what Paul wrote in Ephesians 4:1-3

“I therefore, a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace”

Paul wasn’t asking for uniformity. He wasn’t asking that we all think the same & act the same & vote the same & look the same. He was asking for unity. What’s the difference? That despite our different thoughts, actions, political preference, & appearance… We cling to the most defining reality about us… our faith in Jesus. The scandalous Gospel that’s worthy of us bearing with one another, when it’s hard & inconvenient.

Our staff & elders & volunteers will all be wearing masks to lead out in this effort. We love you. We’re praying for you. We’re grateful for your support!
