It’s all about Jesus! If someone asked you why global missions is important what would you tell them? If you said because people need Jesus or because the world needs to be a better place or because it’s a command from Jesus you would be right, but also incomplete. The primary reason we pursue global missions is because Jesus is worthy of the praise and worship of every single person, family, tribe and nation! He is the God who created all the universe including mankind and He is the God that is running after His rebellious people to rescue them and win them back.

Here’s the reality:
While God is infinitely worthy of worship we live in the midst of a sobriety reality; there are 2.4 billion people in 6,000 people groups who have never heard the name of Jesus.

Those 2.4 billion people matter for two reasons.

1) Jesus is worthy of their praise. God designed us to be a worshiping people. And our praise was meant for Jesus, but those 2.4 billion people are worshiping something other than Jesus. Jesus isn’t receiving the glory He is due from them! Revelation 5:9-10 says that Jesus is worthy because He ransomed a people for Himself with His blood. Jesus is worthy of the reward of His suffering!

2) Jesus loves each of those people. While 2.4 billion people is an unfathomable amount, each one of them matters to Jesus. God has been planning their rescue for thousands of years. All the way back to Abraham when He promised to bless Abraham so that Abraham would be a blessing to all the families of the earth in Genesis 12:1-3.

So why is missions important? Because Jesus is worthy. Yes, people need Jesus, the world needs to be fixed and obedience to Jesus’ commands are important but what drives those is our passion to see Jesus lifted high by all people. So pursue Jesus. Root yourself in Him and be released on His mission. Abide in the vine and produce much fruit. Missions matters because Jesus matter!
